MIDWEEK DEVOTION
This Sunday is World Communion Sunday where churches all over the globe remember one another while celebrating holy communion together. I’ll preach more on that on Sunday morning. One thing that’s stuck with me as I’ve been preparing this week is that there are two main geographical places in my mind: home and everywhere else!
I’m an adventurer. I love to explore and hope to visit as many places as possible in my lifetime. I also love home. There’s nothing better than the place we belong, especially as we gear up for some of our bigger holidays that remind us of home.
The thing about “home” is that it’s really more than just one place. We may think about a house or two, a school, a city, or even our church. Whether West Des Moines has always been your home or whether you’re creating memories now that make this place home, we are glad you are here.
West Des Moines UMC is a place you can call home. Whether you’re the grandparent who keeps us all coming to the same place, the parent keeping us focused on tomorrow, the eccentric aunt who keeps us thinking outside the box, the goofy uncle who keeps us joyous, or the child who reminds us why are here, know we are glad this is your home. Families are messy, even church families, but we are all on this journey together. Welcome home, family.

Our next Bar+Church will be Sunday, October 27th at 1 pm at The Hall in Valley Junction. All are welcome. We especially encourage you to bring your friends or family members who don’t go to church. We hope this can be a place for them to experience God in a new way where they can ask tough questions and explore faith together.
