"Midweek and an Uncommon Prayer" Pastor Trevor's Devotion 02/03/2021

Hello Church!

I’ve been fascinated this week with a new book. This book has been on my bookshelf for a long time. It was passed down to me by a retired pastor. Kenneth Phifer wrote “A Book of Uncommon Prayer” in 1981. 40 years later it’s dusted off and speaking life into my soul. For the devotion this week, I want to share this prayer with you:

“I Need to Feel the Spirit”

Ah, God, I would thank you for your constant comings.
Sometimes I’m happy, sometimes I’m blue.
I fluctuate and vacillate.
Sometimes my heart sings, sometimes it sobs.
But your Spirit comes—
sometimes when I pray for the coming,
sometimes when I least expect it.

At times the Spirit moves in my life.
And I only realize as I look back
that you were there in a special way,
that the strength I had to resist a temptation,
the assurance and comfort I felt at a dark time,
the gladness I found around the bend of a lonely road,
all were results of your coming to me unexpectedly.

Keep coming, O Lord,
For I often get too busy,
too harried,
too preoccupied with the details of everyday living
to feel the wind of the Spirit.
I need to stop and look up
and see the leaves hang trembling
far more often than I do.
Perhaps I will be more aware from now on,
perhaps not.
So keep coming, Lord.
I desperately need you. Amen.

Blessings as you seek God’s face over and again. —Pastor Trevor
