Ben and Kelly Meyer at Fall Festival
Faces
at WDM United Methodist Church
Ben
and I both grew up in very different religious environments. His family has
always been very active in their church. My church experiences mainly consisted
of attending weddings and funerals.
After
we had Ryan we both wanted to build a solid spiritual foundation for our son
and for ourselves. Ben had been a little soured by his past experiences with
other parishes, and I had no clue where to even begin. We had “church-shopped,”
checking out some different congregations, but none of them felt…right. Somehow
during our search Linda Plummer became a pen pal of sorts to me, and she
invited me to attend a service. It was one of those things that stuck in the
back of my mind and took a while before I actually acted upon it.
When
Ben, Ryan, and I did finally attend our first service last July, we did what
most newcomers do, tried to hide in the background! But that was
impossible
to do with so many friendly individuals greeting us - not pressuring us, just
stopping by to say “Good Morning.” It was that warm and welcoming atmosphere
that first made us feel very comfortable here.
We
were also very drawn to the message that day. It was like Dr. Daniel
was speaking directly to us and about our lives. He had such a caring and nurturing way about him that felt like he was just a family member talking to us - not yelling, placing blame or causing guilt, just letting us know that Jesus loves us, no matter what.

We
know that God’s hands placed us in this church home and surrounded us with so
many wonderful people we are happy to call friends and have in our lives today!
The biggest part of why we have become so active is that we want to help other
people experience the love and inclusive feeling that we’ve had in the WDMUMC
family.
With
so much fear, hopelessness, uncertainty and pain in the world today, more than
ever before, people want to experience a feeling like what we’ve found: warm
welcome and hospitality, unconditional love, acceptance, a safe place to call
“home,” and the opportunity to grow deeper in our walk with God. We are
committed to giving back what we’ve received through you!
